Manhattan Software Empowers Organisations to Reduce Carbon Footprint

Manhattan's customisable dashboards provide integrated, real-time monitoring of carbon footprint performance against industry and government benchmarks

London (12th Oct 2007) - Manhattan Software, a full service provider of a web-based global integrated workplace management system (IWMS), is empowering organisations to reduce their carbon footprint (CFP) and gain competitive advantages by integrating, monitoring and communicating CFP-related data throughout the enterprise.  Real estate, facility and property managers, board members and other top executives are provided real-time insight into current environmental performance compared against internal targets and external benchmarks.

The web-based Manhattan dashboard delivers vital information to audiences beyond the traditional real estate departments.  Energy consumption, and other types of CFP-related data from the broader enterprise, is integrated and delivered directly to business leaders concerned with issues impacting the organisation as a whole.  For example, growing energy costs continue to drive operating expenses, which has forced the topic to become a key issue on the business agenda of many organisations.  Energy consumption is now more than a “green” issue, and Manhattan’s CFP dashboard can assist in generating competitive advantages by displaying opportunities for organisations to maximise the sustainability of their corporate real estate portfolio.

"The concept of being a green or eco-friendly organisation has grown to encompass more than social and environmental responsibility," said Steve Vatidis, CEO of Manhattan Software Global. “Many enterprises are realising the benefits of green initiatives, and are placing an increased emphasis on ensuring their corporate real estate portfolio mirrors this focus.  Manhattan’s dashboards provide the customisation, collaboration and insight necessary for an organisation" executives to ensure its current performance meets and exceeds industry levels.”

An organisation’s CFP is the measurement of the impact its activities have on the environment – in terms of the amount of 'greenhouse gases' produced.  In 2006, more than 1,040 million metric tons (MMT) of carbon dioxide emissions came from commercial structures, compared with 1,965 MMT emitted by transport and 1,669 MMT generated by industry, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA).  The EIA also stated in a November 2006 report that “commercial sector carbon dioxide emissions have risen by 269.9 MMT since 1990, accounting for 28 percent of the total increase in U.S. unadjusted energy-related carbon dioxide emissions."

Manhattan also provides an automated CFP calculator that incorporates carbon off-set at the property level, and the dashboards allow flexible user-customisation – CFP can be broken down by property portfolio, geographical region, individual properties or energy type.  The dashboards can be tailored according to an individual’s role within the enterprise, and according to a specific property sector, such as commercial, retail, industrial or others.
